Plot Diagram
This chart will work with any short story or novel. It includes the standard parts, exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution, but it also has a place for students to include information about setting, mood, characters, type of conflict (internal/external) and a place for resolution and what happens to the characters at the end. I model this with my 8th grades and then have them complete the chart independently with certain short stories. It it a visual way to outline the story.
